Why aluminium beats uPVC on every metric
Part L of the Building Regulations sets the minimum U-value for new and replacement windows in England and Wales at 1.4 W/m²K. Our aluminium windows hit 1.2 W/m²K as standard — or 0.8 W/m²K with the triple-glazed option, which is Passivhaus-certified.
Aluminium frames are stronger by weight than uPVC, so the frame can be slim. That means 25% more glass and 25% more light than an equivalent uPVC window. The 34 mm polyamide thermal break keeps the outside cold off the inside warmth. The frame won’t warp in heat, won’t go brittle in cold, won’t yellow in sun, and never needs painting.

Aluminium windows in real UK homes
Real installations across new builds, renovations and extensions. Slim sightlines, flush sashes, Part L performance — captured in summer light to show how the frame disappears against the wall.

Both sashes open without a central mullion — uninterrupted view, full ventilation.
Choosing aluminium windows in 2026
Aluminium windows are the modern default for new-builds, extensions and full renovations. They’re slim, strong, energy-efficient and never need painting. This guide explains the choices.
Aluminium vs uPVC — why aluminium wins
Aluminium is stronger by weight than uPVC, so the frame can be much slimmer. That means more glass and more light. uPVC frames also distort in heat, go brittle in cold, and yellow in sun. Aluminium frames don’t — they keep their shape and finish for 25+ years.
What’s a “flush casement”?
A flush casement has the opening sash level with the outer frame — like a flush kitchen cupboard door. It’s the modern look. A stepped casement has the sash slightly proud of the frame and is closer to traditional joinery. Both options are available.
Top hung, side hung, tilt-turn — what’s the difference?
Top hung opens outwards from a hinge at the top — great for upstairs, weatherproof. Side hung opens like a door, hinged at the side. Tilt-turn tilts inwards from the top for ventilation and swings open from the side for full access — perfect for upper floors as you can clean from inside. French casement is two sashes that open without a central mullion.
How thermally efficient are they?
Part L requires 1.4 W/m²K or better. Our aluminium windows hit 1.2 W/m²K standard, 0.8 W/m²K on triple glazing. The 34 mm polyamide thermal break is the key — it stops outside cold meeting inside warmth.
Security
PAS 24 tested. Multi-point locking, anti-lift rollers, internal beading, optional key-lockable handles. Suitable for ground-floor and upper-floor applications.
How wide can the frames go?
Single sashes up to 2.5 m on picture windows, 1.2 m on opening sashes. Larger spans we can split with a slim mullion — sightlines stay clean. For full-wall glass, see our bifold and sliding ranges.
Trickle vents — required or optional?
Building Regulations Part F now requires trickle vents on most replacement windows. We fit them as standard, colour-matched to the frame so they’re barely visible.
Supply only or supply & fit?
We do both. Supply-only is popular with builders — trade pricing, full pack, phone support on install day. Supply & fit gets our in-house team measuring, installing, testing and signing off. Same 10-year guarantee either way.
Trusted by homeowners & builders across the UK
“Replaced 14 uPVC windows with GWS aluminium — anthracite, flush casement. House looks completely different. So much more light, so much sharper.”
“I supply-only on most builds. GWS aluminium windows are my default — Part L compliant out of the box, trade pricing is fair, install packs are excellent.”
“Triple-glazed tilt-turn windows throughout the new build. 0.8 W/m²K, Passivhaus standard. House is warm in winter without the heating on.”
